The spring weather hasn’t dampened Steve Klippenstein’s spirits.
Klippenstein is an operating partner at Regina’s Milky Way, a seasonal ice cream shop that operates from March until October.
“The weather (has) been really consistently dull and drab. It definitely has an effect on business, but being from Saskatchewan, we’re used to weather not always going our way,” said Klippenstein.
The business was a passion project between wife and husband duo the Boldt, who opened the business for something to do in the warmer months of the year before they would travel south in the winters.
He chooses to remain optimistic that the rain will subside, as it’s now officially the first day of summer. “As soon as the sun comes out, our customers come back, and line-ups start happening again,” he said.
This weekend is expected to be sunny. Klippenstein said they are expecting a large turnout.
“We’ve loaded up on our staff and our products, and we’re ready to serve everybody in Regina,” he said. “Thank you to our customers for being patient with the weather, and we can’t wait to see you back here.”
The flavour of the day is pistachio.
David Phillips, a senior climatologist at Environment and Climate Change Canada reassures Saskatchewan the warmth is coming.
“July is the warmest month and August is the second warmest,” said Phillips. “What we see coming are some warm temperatures.”
Phillips joked saying maybe everything is just delayed and September could be what June is normally like temperature-wise.
