A woman living in Saskatoon said it was upsetting and disturbing when she first heard three of Taylor Swift’s concerts were cancelled in Vienna after an alleged foiled terrorist attack.
“I just don’t even know what to say,” said Fruzsina de Cloedt. “I’m just devastated, and I’m in full shock still.”
In January, de Cloedt moved to Saskatoon from Hungary. A week ago, she returned for her first trip home to visit her sister attending school in Austria.
de Cloedt first found out about the concert cancellation when she got a text from a friend, alerting her of the alleged organized terrorist attack aimed at Swift’s concerts.
“We were pretty spooked,” she said. “For myself, I say I was scared.”
The ‘Cruel Summer’ singer was scheduled to play three Eras Tour shows in Vienna from Thursday to Saturday, but all have been cancelled according to Barracuda Music.
de Cloedt said she and her sister both shed some tears, seeing slim chances they would get to see the Eras Tour after the cancellation.
“We both broke down crying,” she said. “It was just awful.”
de Cloedt said she has been waiting over a year to see Swift perform, after securing the high in demand tickets. Barracuda Music has promised refunds for all ticket-holders within 10 days.
Swift has not made any public comments yet about the concert cancellation.
The disappointment quickly shifted into anger and fear when she learned about the alleged attack plot.
“I’m just really upset that someone tried hurting us, and that I’m not safe,” she said. “That’s the part I can’t get over. I have so many emotions in me right now.”
de Cloedt said began to feel relief after Austrian authorities announced two arrests had been made in connection to the apparent attack plot.
While de Cloedt said losing out on some money, and the experience to see Swift perform left “a sour taste” in her mouth, she is glad to see nobody was hurt.
To lift their spirits, de Cloedt said she and her sister went to Corneliusgasse Street to meet up with other Swifties to trade friendship bracelets and sing along to her songs.
de Cloedt said fans specifically chose Corneliusgasse Street because it is similar to Swift’s song “Cornelia Street” from her 2019 “Lover” album.
While de Cloedt said the concert cancellation is “heartbreaking.” she is trying to make the best out of a bad situation.
“Judging by the crowds out there right now in Vienna, I would say people aren’t afraid either,” she said. “They are out there, they are singing their lyrics, they are exchanging their friendship bracelets, and trying to salvage whatever is left of this concert.”
de Cloedt said the grand finale to her trip was wrecked, she was happy to spend time with her sister, friends, and family on her vacation home.
