Two Saskatoon police officers injured during brawl with children

Two Saskatoon police officers were injured after they were allegedly attacked by a group of children in Hampton Village.

According to police, the officers were responding to a call about a fight involving 15 to 20 youths in the area of Junor Avenue and Hampton Gate at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

When they arrived, police said the officers saw a large group of children “surrounding an injured male youth on the ground.”

Officers told the group to clear the area so they could perform first aid, but the children allegedly attacked the officers.

“A physical altercation ensued between the officers and the (youths),” police said.

During the fight, police said multiple people called 911 to say the officers needed backup.

“Following the arrival of additional police officers, two 15-year-old males and two females, age 14 and 15, were arrested and are facing a combination of charges relating to public intoxication, obstructing police, theft under $5000, and assaulting the police officers,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.

The injured child, age 15, was taken to hospital for treatment, police said, while the two officers sustained injuries.

Police did not describe the extent of the officers’ injuries except to say they were not considered life threatening.
