The Queen City is one step closer to a second Costco location.
A discretionary use application for a new Costco store on the west edge of Regina has received a stamp of approval from the city’s development officer. The decision on Aug. 21 means Costco can proceed with its plans for the 14,800-square-metre store and gas bar.

The new store will be located in the Westerra neighborhood at 8701 Dewdney Avenue, beyond Courtney Avenue, right at the city limits.
There was plenty of community support for the project, though a few people have raised concerns.
Of the 620 comments the city received about the proposed Costco, more than 91 per cent (566) were in full support.
But while most supported the development, there were some concerns voiced as well. Five per cent of those who spoke up (35) indicated they might support the project if certain aspects were adjusted, raising issues related to location, fuel station offerings, transit services, and traffic impacts.
Nineteen respondents were completely opposed to the new store, primarily citing concerns about traffic, location, and the potential effects on smaller retail options.
There is no word on when construction may begin, or when the store is expected to open.
