People might struggle to get a hotel room in Regina for the Labour Day long weekend, especially with the Riders sold-out Labour Day Classic on Sunday.
Shari McCannel, director of marketing and sponsorship for the Regina Hotels Association, said the long weekend is always busy, with occupancy rates usually over 90 per cent.
“I hope a lot of those hotel stays are from Bomber fans,” said McCannel on the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Friday.
She said the economic spin-off from the Labour Day Classic is a big one for hotels.
“For hotels alone, it’s about $500,000 — that’s just for the Rider game day,” said McCannel.
“But high hotel occupancy would be a strong key indicator that other businesses in the city, restaurants, pubs, retail, taxis, are also going to see spin-off from that.”
If you still need a hotel room, McCannel suggested booking as soon as possible.
“You can check what’s available on our website at stayinregina.com. That will allow you to compare rates of what is available,” she said.
McCannel also encouraged people to call the hotels directly.
“If there is a certain hotel you are looking to stay at and it’s not showing availability online, try calling the hotel because often our hotels won’t have all of their supply online or on third-party hotel booking sites.”
