Sandra Masters, Regina’s mayor, said the city is thrilled to have been selected as the host.
“Our community holds a deep appreciation for the service and dedication of first responders, whose daily efforts keep us safe, supported, and protected,” Masters said in a statement.
“We celebrate the opportunity for these heroes from across North America to come together in the spirit of competition and connection, and we will ensure that every athlete, family member, and fan visiting our city has an exceptional and welcoming experience.”
Regina Fire Chief Layne Jackson said he’s excited for the city’s firefighters to take part and showcase their skills.
“This is a great opportunity for athletes from the emergency and protective services in Regina to enjoy camaraderie, fitness, and friendly competition,” Jackson said.
The fire chief’s comments were echoed by Farooq Sheikh, Regina’s police chief.
“The games are an incredible opportunity for front-line emergency personnel to showcase the unique physical aspects of their work while engaging in friendly competition with their counterparts from across North America,” Sheikh said.
“It’s all about family, fun and spending time with the larger community of first responders and I know our officers are looking forward to it.”
Paul Merriman, Saskatchewan’s minister of corrections, policing and public safety, said the event is more than just a way to showcase the city and province.
“It’s an opportunity for our many officers in protective services, policing, corrections, fire and rescue to shine as they compete with their colleges from across North America,” Merriman said.
“I’m proud of the work these officers do every day, and I know they will make Saskatchewan proud in the games.”
