Sask. gets first highway roundabouts as Balgonie overpass opens

Driving east of Regina looks a bit different now that the Balgonie overpass opened.

It opened Tuesday night after initially being scheduled to be open for Monday morning.

This alters traffic patterns for both east and westbound traffic.

Regina Bypass said eastbound access to Balgonie at Main Street is closed, as all eastbound traffic can get to Balgonie via the new overpass.

The overpass includes two roundabouts, a first for a Saskatchewan highway.

Regina Bypass said the roundabouts are designed to accommodate large vehicles like farm equipment, while instituting fewer stops, shorter delays and decreased likelihood of collisions.
