We are still on a temperature teeter-totter in Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada forecasts temperatures around the freezing mark heading into the weekend in Regina and Saskatoon. It comes after large parts of the province have seen temperatures fluctuate drastically over the past week.
Meteorologist Dave Carlsen said southern Saskatchewan should brace for another dump of snow and freezing rain this weekend.
“It’s going to warm up, but it looks like the weather might be a little bit treacherous on the weekend,” he said.
“It looks like we’re probably going to potentially have some fairly decent snowfall totals along with some potential for freezing rain around the Trans-Canada (Highway).”

Carlsen explained while it is still too early to tell where the storm is tracking, he said there could be some snowfall and freezing rain warnings issued.
“It does appear somewhere, probably (from the) Yellowhead (Highway) or south. So, pretty much anywhere in southern Saskatchewan is under the gun for heavy snowfall at this point.”
He suggested preliminary forecasts for the storm are tracking between 10 and 20 centimetres or four to eight inches of snowfall in the heaviest areas, with a few hours of freezing rain predicted for the southern edge of the heavier snowfall.
“Right now, it’s hard to say exactly where it’s going to fall, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we had snowfall warnings and freezing rain warnings for this weekend issued either tomorrow (Friday) or a little closer to the weekend.”
However, Carlsen explained if the temperature does sneak above freezing, the snow will change to rain.
“That’ll greatly reduce how much snow falls and then the conditions on the roads, for example, will be a lot less icy and a bit more sloppy, so you get that slushy kind of stuff, still kind of tricky to drive in. Although, I would venture to say that ice is a bit more dangerous to be to be driving on,” he said.
“We can hope for that temperature to pop above the freezing mark, and it very well may, especially if the track of the system goes a little bit farther north.”
As for the weather shifting drastically lately, from above freezing, to the -20 C’s, it can be difficult to decide what to wear outside from day to day.
“Some days you can have really warm weather, relatively speaking, and some days it can be pretty col. Pack a heavy jacket, pack a light jacket, you just have to take pretty much everything, I guess.”
