Regina’s largest high school will undergo construction to address structural issues of the building, beginning this summer.
In a letter sent out to parents, the Regina Public School Division said that demolition and construction would begin at Campbell Collegiate in June immediately after final exams.
“During a site visit in 2022, and a review of previous structural reports, it was observed that
settlement and movement of the ground beneath the school building had caused faults in the structure of both the three-story portion of the building and the southwest main floor Practical Applied Arts (PAA) area,” wrote Superintendent Jason Coleman.
“These faults necessitated the original construction being underpinned in 2003 and further underpinning of both areas in 2009.”

With construction underway, Coleman wrote that students living outside of the approved Campbell Collegiate designated neighborhood won’t be approved to attend the school.
Coleman said the PAA area has suffered displacement which caused cracks in various areas. Coleman added that some of the affected areas haven’t been used since 2022 for safety reasons.
The scope of construction is also expected to include areas of the school’s cafeteria McTavish’s and its surrounding area.
“This project is expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months. We are committed to minimizing disruption to the school schedule and continue to provide a conducive learning environment during this period,” the letter read.
The project will be funded by the Ministry of Education while Regina Public Schools collaborates with SaskBuilds on the redesign and construction of the south west main floor PAA area.
“Once renovations are underway there will be some limitations to the available school space while this work takes place,” read a statement from the ministry that was sent out on Friday.
“Students and staff at Campbell Collegiate remain the top priority and it is anticipated that plans will be put in place to minimize disruptions.”
Coleman wrote that the redesign is meant to create a “modern” learning space that meets all necessary standards and requirements.
“During the construction phase, there will be limitations to the available school space. Our team will be exploring options to accommodate the needs of our school programming,” he wrote.
He said parents will receive more updates on further developments.
