An RCMP bear-maced call turned on them after a 25-year-old sprayed it in their direction.
Just before 2 p.m. on Sunday, Carrot River RCMP got a report of a residence on Red Earth Cree Nation where a man was using bear mace.
Officers found the man inside the residence and informed him he was under arrest and needed to exit the house — he did not comply.
According to the Sask. RCMP news release, “The male extended a can of bear mace outside a window, spraying it in the direction of officers.”
No officers were physically impacted.
They arrested the man who is from Red Earth Cree Nation and charged him with the following:
- one count, assault on police officer with a weapon/causing bodily harm, Section 270.01(2), Criminal Code;
- one count, uttering threats against a person, Section 264.1(1)(a), Criminal Code;
- one count, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Section 88(1), Criminal Code;
- one count, resists/obstruct peace officer, Section 129(a), Criminal Code; and
- one count, mischief under $5000, Section 430(4), Criminal Code.
The 25-year-old also had an outstanding warrant for a November assault from the Carrot River RCMP.
On March 3rd, he appeared in Melfort Provincial Court.
