Saskatchewan saw some changes in the list of the most popular baby names in 2024, with Henry and Sophia taking the top spots.
According to data from eHealth Saskatchewan, Sophia ended Olivia’s nine-year run as the province’s top baby name for girls, with 48 newborns named Sophia. Olivia remained in the second-place spot, however, with 43. Coming in third was a tie between Charlotte and Isla (39), followed by Ellie and Hazel (37), Violet (36) and Harper (35).

“Hazel rose from 20th to sixth, Ellie from 19th to fifth, Harper from 17th to eighth, and Isla from 10th to fourth. Ivy lost ground, falling from fifth place last year to 17th place this year,” eHealth noted in a statement.
“For the first time, Lainey is one of the most popular names for baby girls, coming in at number 20. Sadie and Grace return after being absent from the list for a few years, while Brielle, Nora, Evelyn and Sophie did not return this year after appearing in the top 20 in 2023.”
On the boys’ side, Henry jumped from 18th place in 2023 to the top spot in 2024, bumping the ever-popular Oliver down to second place. There were 53 babies named Henry in Saskatchewan last year, compared to 50 babies called Oliver.
Liam was the third most popular boys’ name in 2024, with 49, followed by Noah (46), Levi (45), Jack (43), Theodore (43) and William (43).
Other popular boys’ names in 2024 included Bennett (39), Hudson (38), Alexander (37), Lucas (35), Muhammad (35), Asher (33), Brooks (33), Leo (32), Elijah (31), Beau (30), Owen (30) and Daniel (28).
“Daniel appears back on the list for the first time since 2017, and Asher, Alexander, Brooks and Elijah also return after being absent for some years,” eHealth noted.
Lincoln, Emmett, Ethan and Luke, which were popular names in 2023, did not make the top 20 list this time around.
The list was created using a preliminary count of 13,189 live births registered in the province as of April 5, and eHealth noted that some birth registrations from the end of the year have not yet been compiled.
In 2023, the province recorded 13,080 live births.
