One of Canada’s favourite games has received a slight twist and now you can play it in the Queen City.
Crokicurl features aspects of curling and the board game crokinole.
CurlSask has set up the game in Victoria Park for Regina residents to take part in.The game has already been made available in Saskatoon.
Pat Simmons, 2014 and 2015 Canadian curling champion, was on hand Tuesday for the first day of the activity.
“I think it’s fantastic,” Simmons said. “It’s a great idea to get people out and active in the winter.”
The game is played on a smaller sheet of ice, which means that kids can enjoy it without having to throw a rock down the entirety of a curling sheet.
“Anything we can do to get a little kid to hold a curling rock and throw it is a good thing.”
Simmons joked that despite being a curling champion, it doesn’t provide him much of an advantage on the crokicurl ice.
“It’s challenging for sure … The rocks are sliding just great and makes for some great games out here.”
Crokicurl will continue on Wednesday with Riders Dillon Grondin and Spencer Moore expected to make an appearance. The game will be available in Victoria Park until Saturday.
