Everything the Saskatchewan Roughriders accomplished on the first day of CFL free agency didn’t really surprise the Green Zone.
Our sharp-as-a-whip commentators — cough, cough — had covered every move in the preceding days. Signing free agent Zack Evans, a defensive tackle from Regina who re-joined the Roughriders after four seasons in Ottawa — we knew that was coming.
Dumping high-priced, under-performing offensive lineman Derek Dennis was basically a certainty after the team padded its payroll with the acquisition of perennial all-star Charleston Hughes, a defensive tackle from Calgary.
We also said during one of last week’s shows that slotback Nic Demski was leaving, that he was heading home to Winnipeg.
We couldn’t understand why fullback Spencer Moore and centre Dan Clark hadn’t been re-signed. Turns out, they already had.
We discuss so many things on the air we’re going to get a few things right. We also get some things wrong. And we take heat for that, as we should. Right now we’re going to gloat a little bit. It’s part of the fun of our discussions on the Green Zone, where we just might reveal some more about the future.
