A man and woman are in custody after Regina police spotted a stolen car in the area of Acrola Avenue and McAra Street Thursday afternoon.
Plain-clothed investigators noticed the vehicle at a business in east Regina. The Kia Rio had been reportedly stolen on Wednesday.
To help catch the vehicle, police successfully deployed a spike belt but despite hitting it, the suspect and passenger continued to drive around the Al Ritchie neighbourhood, even driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Arcola Avenue.
Eventually, the stolen Kia stopped on McAra Street, close to Arcola.
Both the driver and passenger fled on foot but were captured a short distance away. The canine unit was brought in and helped catch the man, who was taken to hospital for treatment.
The man was actually wanted on warrants and is believed to be a suspect in a number of recent criminal offences, including both property and violent crimes.
Police are continuing to investigate the stolen Kia as well as the incidents believed to be related to the activities of the man.
Police are also looking into what kind of role the woman passenger may have played in the stolen vehicle incident.
During today’s arrest, an unrelated civilian vehicle ran into an unmarked police vehicle, but no one was hurt.
