It’s just mere hours until the Perseid meteor shower lights up the Saturday night sky.
Earlier this week, retired Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield chatted with one of our sister stations, Jack FM and talked about how up in outer space, you can actually hear the meteorites ricocheting off the space station.
“You’re constantly trained and ready at any second for one of those to be slightly bigger than average and to hit the ship — it’s just one of those things you have to be ready for,” Hadfield explained.
The retired astronaut said the earth gets hit by about 50 tons of meteors every day, but a Perseid meteor shower happens when comets leave a debris field behind them.
The peak time to watch the light show is around 10 p.m. on Saturday night, but it’s expected to illuminate the sky Sunday night as well.
